beta test was a while ago and the in-house participants were paid. this is early access. not a beta

Because you hate your self and can't help but to join the latest hypetrain.

More likely they are allowing players to join in the process to get a wider range of feedback while getting a nice infusion of funds so they won't have to cater to an investor that will bring demands.
