How do "seasons" work?
All I really want to know is, when a new season starts, is it like Diablo where you have to make a brand new character to participate? Or is the content designed for the characters we have already invested our time into?

Leagues in PoE 1 always revolve around a major new gameplay mechanic and do require you to make new, season-exclusive characters. Once the league ends the characters are sunset into perpetual gameplay with all the others from previous leagues.
So you can still play those characters but you can't use them in any following leagues.

It will probably be that way in PoE2 as well since the formula was immensely popular and successful.

Unfortunately, with the game bringing a HUGE new playerbas3, they're just realising this mechanic and don't like it. It's actually a large chunk of the playerbase that don't like this mechanic, especially now that its such a a grind to get to endgame.
lmao, i remember d4 newcomers had this sentiment too. they whine about resets and ♥♥♥♥. but i am sorry arpg loot games will always have seasons and resets. just play standard league (the none-reset league) if don't like it.

Thats unfortunate. I personally think that system is insanely stupid. Guess I wont be playing an ARPG ever again since they all want to use this format.
Thanks for answering at least.

Same. It is a lazy old mechanic they have used for years and that worked in the past, nowadays, it is just an excuse for lack of content. They can't make people play for a long time.

I agree, season and starting all over anew and kind of trashing the old character is a stupid concept. Why can't they just add new content to the old game?.
yea then it can be a steaming pile of bloated ♥♥♥♥ like retail wow. play the eternal realms if you dont like it. seasons are cool.

You need to break the diablo4 parallelism. The problem with D4's season implementation was that you were resetting characters without much else to do. It was a pure vapid timesink/reset without warrant. D4 has also walked back and redefined that initial direction to mitigate the sink... faster exp to endgame, skipping portions of the game, etc.

The "league mechanics" in D4 are hit or miss (the theory was two diff teams, 1 working on dud/stopgap seasons and 1 working on the beefy/good seasons).

In POE there are massive additions and changes to how classes play as well as adding new endgame activities (most of the seasons, not all).

To put it another way, if all POE2 did was cut and paste a POE1 season in every few months, they'd also be adding ascendancies/meta shifts/tweaks to the game to keep it fresh.

To put it in perspective, both trials were "league mechanics" in POE1. Ritual, essences, delirium, expeditions, breach: 5 more league mechanics.

here's a list of the poe1 leagues:

https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/League

they could trivially cut and paste in a dozen of those leagues that would last years and make the game more or less fresh per reset. POE2 has about 8-9 mechanics out of around 45 from POE1

Seasons only really work if you have a reasonable way of reaching level 100. Personally I consider a season "finished" once I reach level 100, as I see little point to continue playing past that milestone since it offers nothing that I do not already have besides gear.

However, that being said POE2 currently makes reaching level 100 very difficult, so I am not sure how that will translate to seasonal gameplay.

You don't have to though? You can keep playing the same game for as long as you want, never resetting anything. Just don't play the league mode.
So, tedeously crafted and/or collected items are rendered worthless for new leagues?
What about currencies? Can previously hoarded orbs be used in new leagues?

Im quite attached to my Ice Monk but know its gonna get Nerfed into the ground the druid should be fun.

I do want the Templar as there will be RF build and that was so fun in poe1.

It’s so freaking easy to get to endgame though, I’m not sure why people get so upset about this because I’d rather get new content, new gear that is better then the current patch and find new builds for different kinds of finds IE MF/RF

99% of the time its from people who think they have massive investment into a character, but the reality is their character is a glorified levelling build at best.
If you do intend on staying and investing on playing PoE. Now would be the ideal time to organise your stash tabs, etc. As these will probably carry over in future updates/leagues/seasons/updates. Also just to get it setup now so you can just run through the campaign on every new seasons.
Winter, spring, summer and autumn... Dude, you really need to finish elementary :lunar2019deadpanpig:

lmao, what? Nothing from season to season will carry over.

No game does that. Not to mention, the EA characters we're playing will not be carried over to standard. They either get wiped or forever stay on the EA season.

Once the game hits 1.0 release, we'll need to make entirely new characters.
