Honor system for first ascendancy.
I'm aware the sanctum mechanic in POE was popular, as a fun niche mechanic. However, I hope it can be understood that forcing it as a players first method of ascendancy, when it specifically punishes several play-styles, is understandably perceived as a poor design choice, at the current difficulty level. High difficulty problems are great, but I would say that for a first helping of getting your ascendancy, a 30 min time sink that ends in a boss fight you lose just trying to figure out mechanics is overly frustrating.

Changing it outright is likely impossible: however, if the first run through could be changed into more of a 'tutorial' difficulty, I think it would go over better.

Ive died a few times during the campaign, but my first try at the ascendancy was a breeze, i found the boss pretty easy, he's slow and predictable just dont stand in the fire. Also getting to the boss was way easier than POE 1.

I really dislike ascendancy trials, and always have.
No other ARPG gates progression like this. It's bad. I wish they'd change it. They changed respeccing and skill gems for the better for PoE2...Hopefully, they do the same here.
I don't mind a quest/sidequest chain to unlock it, but I don't like a trap dungeon, or other such thing that's essentially pass/fail because if you die, you're back to square one.
Or, they could just do away with it completely, and have you just level up 100% with XP like a normal game.

Its alot faster to complete than PoE 1 the rooms are small and you can just run through it pretty fast. Dont know if it gets harder later on in the game.

Ranged characters can finish it with ease, melee have to reroll.

First time I've seen a system that punishes melee players for:
a) being in melee
b) feeling tanky
c) feeling like a tanky god in melee

And that was in PoE1 sanctum, and for wtv reason they thought it'd be great in PoE2.

Failing a run because you die is fine, failing a run because you got hit too much is BS. Its not fun, it adds nothing, imo should be removed.

Yeah they absolutely need to change it, it's so unfun for melee and makes no sense.

Why do tanky melee characters have to "prove their strength" by rolling around and using ranged attacks?

"I ascended to a tanky titan by not letting people touch me", it's so horrendously lazy.

Warrior feels like the stepchild the didn’t want. The whole ascension trial is very convoluted and feels like they do not want you to ascend in the first place. I enjoy the difficulty of the bosses but in the end it’s a game.

I think the issue is just early access. As they said, there will be 3 types of trials for ascendancy and you can choose which one you want to do. So we can imagine some will favor builds.

One the whole system is in place, people will just choose the trail that correspond to their build. They would have to do sanctum with melee char.

The best way to fix the honor system is to remove it completely.

Agreed, remove honor completely.

I'd rather the trial just be overall harder, or even lower my resistances than have to roll around with a ranged weapon as a sword and board tank.

No problem at all even playing melee whit lv 20 i did my first lab and it wars easy as ♥♥♥ just take all relics whit honor res and max honor its super easy

I tried once as ranged, but my build isn't really optimized. I'm not having trouble with the campaign though. I don't even mind that much fighting the boss a couple of times, but the run back is not something I want to do every time I die. I'm just going to wait until I'm stronger I guess. I didn't like the PoE 1 trials, but these are absolute cancer.

I mean you brag about having 20k hours in path of exile I hope you'd be able to do that lol.

Also as far as melee goes, I think it probably needs to be made more clear that Warrior seems much harder than Monk.

Warrior is very incomplete compared to Monk.
