- People complaining on forums: wahhhh my minions die to trash mobs!
One thing I will say though, is the game limits you almost due to the console adaption. You are only allowed a certain amount of skill slots.
Granted the father of this genre did only allow you to have basically 2 skills (Diablo 2)
Because if you do, your minions become sufficiently tanky to even survive most boss attacks, at least once.
I said nothing of sorts.
Even with all Energy Shield items and an investment in Energy Shield nodes bosses 2-shot me though but I think it's on purpose too in this EA. The loot certainly don't feel good in the EA. Never get anything good and have to abuse the random item sellers and the orbs to try to get something decent and you kind of have to with the progression in this EA.
You are probably thinking of minions the wrong way. Most ARPGs have a skill that is called a minion and the minions stats are derrived from the character. This is not the whole picture for POE2
POE2 you need to synergize your skills together to make Over Powered Minion combos. For instance, Flame Wall (buffed in Area and Defensive Circle for max size) + Flame Skulls (buff the hit and ignite) , Any skills that augment Minions will Augment your Flame Skulls and you can have 10 up at a time. With Flame Wall this is literally 1.5 seconds to cast and 10 Flame Skulls beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of everything in their wake.
Combine That combo with summoning 2-3 Archers, and use the special command of the archers to toss in Poinson Clouds, which EXPLODE for CRAZY damage when the Flame Wall or Flame Skulls Ignite touches it.
Plus if your Sceptre has the Bone Soldier Minion skill you get 2 free Minions to use. They are perfect Meat Shields.
Plus you can then use on top of all that, Unearth, and any corpse you make with the 3 other minions is now MORE MINIONs!!! Minions EVERYWHERE! And you can make them EXPLODE! CARNAGE EVERYWHERE!
But wait that's not all!
Essence Drain + Contagion , Now your Unearthed Minions also spread the Plauge. MUAHAHAHAH!
This first 27 levels were doable but wasnt that fun. Investing in minion passives only didnt help at all. main issues are
1) minions die very easy, not just on bosses. And they tend to do one after another so the timer for respawn resets like in every 2 seconds untill you have no left. Then you wait 6 seconds.
2) damage is barely there. Something like 10% of total damage is from minions. Between contagion+essence drain and Bone storm or ritual the minions might as well be not there at all.
3) Enemy AI prefers the player as target far to much. This is the most glaring issue which makes the build especially not that fun. half the enemy horde just runs up to my face and tries to kill me, despite my 6 warriors and 4 archers derping around them. Most of the time its irritating but the blue and yellow scarabs in act2 killed me more than one time by just simply hugging my face, cannot be outrun or outrolled, only outdamaged, which is somewhat impossible if they are a yellow mob and have a ton of HP.
If I rate the minion build leveling in last epoch to a 8/10 this one was a solid 3/10. The gas arrows and handy, and I tried the arsonist expolison too but the casting economy does not really allow those to be used as much as I'd like. having to facetank most of the time means that casting is a luxury and bone cage + rolling takes up most time. Refreshing DoTs as needed and summoning zombies desperately because the warriors are dying already.
Naturally, the firewall, raging spirit build is a tad bit easier, but as I said, it just does not sit well for me to use elemental skills. I enjoy the hexing DoTing lord of the horde kind of necromancer, and its sad that the class fantasy comes with unnecesseraly hardened leveling.
For comparison, I'm now doing a sorcerer, lvl14 atm, and its just mindless ice nova spam with occasinally dropping an ice bomb on elites and bosses. The difference is so extreme its unbelievable. Wonder if act2 will be the same breeze.
Having a firewall minion build is appreciated, but where does it leave the other minion builds? My sorc beat the brakes off the Act 1 Boss. My non fire witch took minutes and multiple tries even with minion damage/hp passives.
Im fine with ok damage before we get levels, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, even wet toilet paper is tougher than these minions.
