If GGG stays the course they had in PoE 1, then I think there will be a good mix of easy and hard bosses at the end.
It's hard to compare PoE to most ARPGs, but it definitely got some inspiration from D2. So as far as challenging endgame think more D2 than D3. I honestly don't see a single commonality between D3 and PoE outside of the fact they're both ARPGs with loot and a top-down camera.
Basically the endgame in that games boils down to: pull everything before it leashes (if that's a thing, been a long time since I played D3) then AOE down typically by standing stationary. No thought process, no tactics, no strategy, just a DPS/gear check.
I hope POE2 did not go down this route when a character gets to endgame/BiS gear/talents/attributes/etc.
