There is also a bug where if you have an offset of weapon slot points it will bug out. For instance if you have 1 point to use for weapon one slot and 3 points to use for weapon slot two, your tree could bug and you'll have to respec to get rid of the weapon slot points before it will open up your tree. I would suggest ignoring this option for now.
You get a few points that can be used to customize your skill tree for either of those sets.
So if your main weapon is melee and you have, say, a bow on the side to use when you don't want to get into melee range (or you have one weapon for trash-mobs and one weapon for bosses) you have a few points you can put in your skill tree that will be used when you have that weapon slot activated. When you swap weapon slots you would use the other set of weapon-skill points.
