If you want to be a part of EA, you need to buy it. If you're willing to wait until full release, it'll be free.

Early access is paid, when the full game releases it is F2P. PoE 1 was F2P friendly for about 30-50 hrs of gameplay before you kinda want to get a few extra stash tabs to keep all your stuff, and stash tabs are generally quite cheap. If you buy the Early Access, you get enough points to have all the stash tabs you'll need for a long time.

early access costs money. but the money you spend also gives you their in-game currency for the same amount as buying the currency. If you want 100% f2p, you'll have to wait until the game's official launch when early-access ends.

iirc for the early access they made it so you need a key, said key is either bought or obtained via giveaway.

For early access you need to buy access, but you also get coins (the real money currency) in the value of the purchase (and some cosmetics in the bigger packs). Later, when it leaves EA it's free 2 play.

For clarity:

Early access is not f2p. You need to buy a supporter pack (any will do, cheapest is $30) in order to get an early access key.

The full game will be f2p like poe1 is. EA is currently projected to be at least 6 months, but I would expect it to last 1 year+.

Free to play after EA. the supporter packs basically just give you their price worth in Cosmetic store coins.

Its pay to play early access but you are not just buying the access you are buying the commensurate amount of in game money for the $30 you need to spend for access.
