What class for a "Battle mage"
While we wait for play button to activate, what class should I play if I want to build a battle mage. I'm imagining a sword and board warrior that uses short ranged fire or ice spells and imbues weapon with elemental damage.

monk probably
when sword attacks come out, they will be elemental, as for spells the ones in the primal category have been said to be more persistent effects to work with shapeshifting, so you could place lightning storms, volcanoes etc while doing elemental attacks with a sword, but we dont really have a timeframe for when these skills will actually be added into the game. hope this helps <3
well there's no swords yet, so Monk (Invoker) or Mercenary (Gemling Leigonaire)

STR/INT class is not yet released.
There will be Druid and Templar later with their skills and weapons.

So closes is monk with DEX/INT combo using staff.

Why do you think Swords will be elemental? They will have STR and DEX requirements.
Templar Flails will be STR/INT.

Prett sure any weapon can do elemental build but Swords will be not better than any other in that department.

Definitely gemling. The ability to easily swap in abilities and multiple skill gems between eachother and only using your highest attribute will be a godsend.
Everyone keeps saying Gemling but Merc has to go a LONG way to reach the upper tree for spell nodes. Through two classes either side that have minimal elemental damage. I could see Monk working very well but not if you want armor/es like a Templar.

I've been having fun with the Witch, still trying to figure out which ascendancy would be best but it's pretty fun. It's far from a perfect build because skills are pretty limited right now with only maces.

Edit: Still a lot of skill points left to customize it, I'm still on my 1st character so I benched it and am focusing on getting to maps with a grenadier Merc.
