Do you still need a build guide?
Only thing that kept me from really getting invested in PoE1 was the fact that you almost had to religiously follow build guides online, since respeccing basically meant you had to create a new character and redo everything from scratch. Will PoE2 be more lenient in this regard, or will it be largely the same?

Who are all these people who are forced to restart every season or "have to use guides"?

What doesn't GGG tell us?

Build guide is usually for endgame if you struggle with your character, there will be many build guide in the futur as the content creators are already trying to make builds with what they know about the skill tree 🎄

Sorry to ruin it for everyone but I have to tell him, there is zero content that requires a group in this game. It's wild how hung up on it you are.

Nah I disagree with that, if its you gotta change up all the time.
Like this encounter is all about range, now this encounter is all about melee, now this is all about this.
literally nobody is gonna do that unless they're gigastuck

TLDR: I'd say yes you still need a build guide (my personal experience).
You can still enjoy the game for many hours just to see to which point you can get without looking up builds, and trying different classes, if that's your jam.

I've been trying out PoE and then PoE 2 trying to do my own build, watching guides to understand the game mechanics. My experience so far (solo self found) is that in PoE2 you still have to create a build that's super good at blowing up tons of mobs super fast, while somehow avoiding damage. I managed to get pretty far in PoE2 and it was a lot of fun - I could stick with my build and keep improving it (ice sorceress), but I think now in Maps T4 it is just too 'slow'. My build needs some build up and positioning, and certain content eg Breach just kills it.

I specifically didn't go with minion build this time as it feels way too OP because aggro is mostly redirected to your minions, so wanted to see how other classes play.

So overall I'm feeling like I absolutely have to to look up an easy-ish build that can blow stuff up to progress further in the game. Which means I won't really keep playing past that point I got to, since following online builds isn't as fun for me.

Anyone who thinks you won't need to be either a good theory crafter yourself or need a build guide is snorting pure Columbian copium.

anyone with the ability to read in game tooltips and in interest to try things, sometimes fail, learn and fix/start again better has never needed a guide

you spoon fed hand holders are crazy.

I have only played the campaign on normal and cruel so far and for that I'd say, it's a decisive no, I didn't use a build guide at all and I'm happy I didn't cause in my experience the game rewards experimentation and if you got an idea and upgrade your skills and passives accordingly chances are that the idea will actually work in a decent enough way at the very least.
Can't say much about the endgame, though, cause after clearing 3 maps I totally noped out cause I thought it was so boring that I can't imagine myself doing this for hours on end. I'm hearing that endgame balancing and the economy is busted anyway.
The campaign is currently where it shines brightest and the endgame needs a lot of catching up to do until it reaches the overall quality of the campaign imho.
And chances are that the endgame will change significantly, so right now, imo using a buildguide is kinda useless longterm anyway, so you might as well get creative right now and try out what looks fun to you. And I think you gonna have more fun that way, I certainly do - in fact it's the reason why I'm still playing. Right now I wouldn't touch a build guide with ten feet poll

the number of people that just mindlessly follow a build guide, without learning a single thing about why something was chosen, then fail to succeed with that build cause they are short on currency so didnt get something critical to the build and in the process still learned nothing is amazing also.

just read the ingame tooltips and learn what things do

I wanna add that POE2 allows you to compensate for a bad build with pure manual dexterity to a degree. And that allows you to progress slowly and learn the character build mechanics in the process without getting stuck indefinitely. And eventually you'll have a decent build, maybe even a great build and understand how everything works.
