If you play light/casual, you don't really need to spend anything. However, if you've jumped into early access, then the credit you get will be worth picking up some stash tabs to store loot, skill gems, etc.
They are open about it and people can decide what they want. It helps fund their development (i.e., in their opinion, better than a single charge for the game), so everyone get's to decide what sort of investment they make into it.
I've spent far less on PoE than I recieved in value (probably < £20-30), so I will just decide what I'll do for PoE 2, as 1) I get to keep my current purchased stash tabs and 2) I now have 300 credit to spend in the shop.
How do you expect the people that work for this game to get paid?
It's why every developer is trying to force a live service game even if they fail. Only need to succeed once and you have a guaranteed revenue stream with tons of income to make up for all the failures.
TQ2 won't have multiplayer at the start of Early Access.
I loved and played TQ1 to death, but they're shooting themselves in the foot by doing this.
Because GGG makes a fabulous game and deserves to be paid compensation for their efforts.
The microtrans in this game are purely cosmetic. (EDIT) aside from stash tabs, but that's to help offset costs of server space.
