Have they given some rationale why you can't jump to maps on alts or future seasons?

All of this combined with the fact that they know that this is an issue and are trying to fix it by using random generation as well as just an overall more engaging experience and whatnot, should end up making the campaign MUCH more fun than it was in PoE 1.
However without the game being out, we can't know for sure how it will feel.

I could see them eventually changing that down the line at some point. That would be in the distant future of PoE2, though.

Though personally while SLOWER you could just stick to the same character. It just makes doing seasons harder as they get jumbled up with other seasons.
Isn't every season a fresh character?
You don't have to. Lets pretend there was only 5 seasons.
You could make a new character who is in season 5... They will only get season 5 events.
Or you can use your previous characters and you will get events from all 5 seasons. Which can take quite a while because you've diluted your pool.
But this is just how it was explained to me.
