But as I said, I don't like that. I think games with massive hub areas and chat, but a few players in game play should be called "Frame-Like" like Warframe. You can interact with a massive amount of players in the chat and hub areas (Dojo and Relays) but the game play part is only up to 4.
Diablo 2 Resurrected is an MMO because you can chat with a massive amount of players, but, similar to Path of Exile and Path of Exile 2, you can only play together with up to 8 players. This, to me, it's the definition of "Frame-Like" not MMO, but isn't about my opinion, is about the technical term, and by technical terms just chatting with a massive amount of players IS MMOing.
Or how about calling them as they should be called. Cooperative Online games, just like GW1 was called since it's the game that transitioned text lobbies to towns.
They are not real mmos with massive world and densities, they should be called something else.
You can't put games like wow, eve online, everquest, gw2, eso etc. in the same basket as games like diablo or poe. There are jsut too much differences in gameplay and structure.
It's not an MMO but that doesn't stop people from mislabeling games.
People call countless games Roguelikes nowadays for example that are only "Roguelites" because they don't understand the difference. It happens all the time - people misuse a word and don't understand the definition, then it becomes widespread.
WoW isn't an mmo, it's an MMORPG :P
should we call PoE 2 a MMOARPG then?
Nah it's a Souls Like obviously :P
It's just not something that poe wants to focus on at that time apparently.
It exists, it's there if you want to do it, but that's about it.
In poe 1's current state it's actually detrimental to do it.
Labeling a game right is not nitpicking. When someone looks for a type of game, if the label is wrong or misused, the search will lead to games not suggested to the target audience.
If I look for an mmo, I don't wan't to get poe or diablo, I want an mmo, like eve online or gw2.
Like if I look for a tennis game I don't want to get a ping-pong game (after all, it's the same thing, there is a net, a ball, played with rackets, except it's not...).
If I look for an rpg, I don't want to get suggestions about counter strike (because yes, someone said to me that they played RPGs, when I asked which one, they said CS... after all you can play the role of a terrorist or CT). So yeah, labels are important...
But it's not.
