Most important question: Are names account locked?

Whenever starting a new MMORPG I always want to know if the names are account locked because I pass on most of those games. If you are not there day 1 all of the names will be taken and you'll have to spend hours coming up with a unique name.

I prefer games like Final Fantasy XIV that force you to make a last name or games like Diablo that let you name your characters whatever you want. I never played Path of Exile 1 because every name I entered was already taken.

Sorry, you posted something and I found it amusing and commented. It isn't a "you must answer the OP's question, if they have one, otherwise you MUST NOT POST" situation.

But, because I'm so helpful and have helped spoon feed people before, I can comment:

"In Path of Exile 2, duplicate character names are indeed allowed, but they come with a unique identifier to differentiate them. If two players attempt to create a character with the same name, the game will append a suffix (like a set of numbers) to ensure that each character name remains unique. This system allows for more flexibility in naming while preventing confusion within the game's messaging and trading systems."

pretty sure they will be account logged for each region.

Also I have only in a few instances, both in PoE1 and other games like WOW (that is 20 years old by now) or other MMOs had naming isusses.
If you never played PoE because every name was taken, maybe its time to step away from simple names like "John" "paladin" or "XX_AXEMAN_XX" and actually try to be creative with naming.

I will bet 30 USD that i can log on PoE right now, and within 3-5 names have a character thats not just random spammed letters.

Maybe you forgot the RPG in the aRPG. People like to make a character their own. It still is mindblowing there's not even some basic character customization. GGG is really missing out on easy money and potential customers who like to tailor their character looks from A to Z.

Also you sound like a real arrogant holier-than-thou prick. Being like this doesn't serve you and only makes you look even more dumb.

@OP it seems POE1 & 2 names are not linked, from what I tested at least.

No, but for real why is it still unique name limited? This problem has been solved by every other game. I dont want to name my characters Xyzabc and other nonsense because bots take up all the names.

how have every other game fixed this?
other ARPGs have the same thing with fixed names. MMOs have the same.
pretty much all server sided online only games i can think of got the same.

I heard them mentioning that duplicate character names are supposed to be allowed, but that doesn't seem to be the case right now.
I'm getting the message about a character name being taken already quite a lot.
Will this feature still be added in the future?

People saying they don't think its a problem or the OP is overreacting are kinda missing the point. Clearly getting a character name they like is important to many people, and they are allowed to be frustrated that they can't get the name they want.

It doesn't even matter if they want a basic arse name like Aragon or Reaper, they should be able to do it. For some people, a character name is a big part of what makes it an RPG.

If its not an issue for you, fantastic, glad you are happy, but that doesn't mean its still not a problem that didn't need to exist and didn't need to be there.
