will we have the same system in poe2 as in poe1? Logging into the account after launch? I wonder if I buy access on steam will it connect to my poe account

I played some of PoE1 on their standalone client years ago, no Steam. Then i bought an EA PoE 2 pack on steam. Then i linked PoE website and Steam.
I login to PoE website using steam or using my mail/password i used on the standalone client. Both ways i get logged in into the same account. That shows my PoE1 purchases and chars and has a message thanking me for the PoE2 EA pack purchase(which i got trough steam).

So, it's actually done pretty good. I just linked my steam to PoE website and everything became unimportant where i did what. I have both PoE 1 and 2 on the same PoE account and on the same Steam account.
Don't worry people, it will all be Ok.

I guess it gets more complicated if you had multiple PoE accounts or different unlinked PoE and Steam accounts and not sure how to "save" the ones you want. In that case i'd suggest going directly to their support via e-mail describing exactly your situation and not getting guesses from community as you never know who really knows what they write and who just assumes with certainty, often wrong (especially often in gaming communities :) ).
Happy monster slaying!

I think if you link Steam account to the PoE website, all data from your previous PoE account will be deleted. Only one account can be linked to the website, so linking your Steam account will overwrite your existing account and its progress if you played PoE 1.

Its all running on your PoE account. Steam is simply linked to it

What are you talking about? PoE1 and PoE2 use the same account.

Poe1-2 are on one account , you just login with steam on the poe website
You can buy a supporter pack on steam or the website , if you buy on the website like I did
the EA will get enabled on your account and you will receive a steam key , later a epic key

I meant if he plan to play both games, it's best to have both on the same account. This way, all your microtransactions will affect both games, and anything he buys or have bought in PoE 1 will carry over to PoE 2, and vice versa.

I've never used Steam for POE1.

So according to this post, I shouldn't use Steam for POE2?

I'm not sure I understand perfectly.

If you didn't use Steam for PoE1, you shouldn't use steam for PoE2, if there is no reason to do that. If there is a reason you can merge accounts together.

Are you absolutely sure of that?

I thought I could simply enter my GGG credentials when launching the game through Steam.

Edit: I bought POE2 on Steam, and linked my GGG and Steam accounts right after.

Do you think I'm still able to download and use the standalone client then?

yes you can! Steam account and GGG client use same key. You can even start POE 1 in steam and you have everything you had in GGG client

Roger that, thank you.

If you linked your account to steam and use the steam client you do not even have to put in your login details. It will automatically use your steam account. Just try it with PoE1.

Alright, thanks again.

I think I'm set then.

I will download POE2 on Steam and use that.

There is a lot of info if someone is confused:
https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3586288

There is both linking and merging that can make confusion.

What should I do if I link the wrong accounts together?

Take great care when linking your accounts together. If anything goes awry, contact support. They will be able to unmerge accounts.
