Exceptions would be where specific controllers exist like car wheel for cars, sticks for fighting games, flying simulators and so on. But even then a better player on keyboard will win over a worse player using those. People overrate type of input a lot.
So chose what you wanna aim for more - precision, speed, more input buttons with KBM or couch relaxed session potentially far from TV with a controller (tho there are KBM for that stuff also nowadays). Personally I would play everything with KBM.
As for the question of swapping between input methods instantly, PoE2 does not currently support automatic swapping between keyboard and controller input on the fly. You would need to manually switch between them in the settings if you want to change the input method. The game will detect which device you’re using, but no "instant swap" feature exists.
In terms of which is better, it largely depends on your playstyle:
Mouse+keyboard offers more control, especially for precision targeting and quick ability management.
Gamepad might be preferred by players who enjoy a more relaxed, Souls-like control scheme, with smoother movement and combat handling.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on your personal preference for either precision (keyboard and mouse) or comfort (controller).
