Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2

What can you become in poe2!?
Let's say you choose to pick "archer" what can you then become other than a archery bow class? Like, can you pick the class archer but then choose to use a melee weapon and become a archer with let say a 1handed melee weapon but having a one handed crossbow in your other slot? Or let say you wanna become a melee sorceress?
Or a marauder but instead of going the usual fighter your using gem skills as a sorceress or a witch summon skeletons? Is it possible?

Just like d2 i pick sorceress but choose to use melee weapons and do something which normally not are seen.

You can use any weapon as long as you have the attributes for it. And any skill gem.

The only decision your class locks you to is:
a) Your starting position on the passive tree
b) Your ascendancy

For example, a popular skill in PoE1 was the minion skill, Summon Raging Sprits, and at one point it was used across a few different classes. The obvious witch Necromancer choice as Chaos damage, the templar Guardian as tri-elemental, and the duelist Champion as either Chaos or Lightning damage.

I wonder if you can summon a monk bell and command your minions to hit it.

Every class can equip any weapon type and use any skill, assuming they meet the stat requirements.

You can't have a 1-handed sword + crossbow in the same weapon set. You can only dual-wield melee weapons. You could have your crossbow in the other weapon set/weapon swap.

In PoE 1 there are builds that use non-Archer classes but still use bows.

There is no archer class. Like there is no swordman class. The ranger class is not an archer, as in it's not locked to a weapon at all. IMO the fact that they announced the classes with a weapon class is both good and bad because new players will think it's gonna be the class' weapon, when it's not.

In poe any class can use any skill. You can pick warrior, equip a fireball spell and make a fireball warrior if you so choose. And yes, it will be viable.
Just like in poe 1 popular marauder (which is the "barbarian" class) build was righteous fire (which is a fire aoe spell) and fire totem spells, so it's basically a mage.

To answer you question with the ranger, you can easily make a melee ranger with swords, daggers etc. or even make a mage ranger. For example the deadeyes specs in projectile, but any projectile skill works with it, like for example you could just use fireball instead of a bow skill and make a sniping caster with it.

All classes are stuck with their ascendancies, so your build also must be built around it to work.

you can do anything and it will work till like the end of campaign, in the endgame if you have ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of a build it will do nothing

well alot of what was shown in the livestream showed the ascendancies to be more of a generic type of buffs like "%dmg against stunned enemy" or "your hits are crushing blows" so it should be more viable to cook an of meta build (even more than it already was in poe1). they where ether +dmg / +resist in condition x or did add extra gameplay elements (like the monks orb thing or the crono witchs time stop).

Maybe you ignore the ascendancies if it suck anyway due to it not sync well with your off meta build:steammocking: I mean if it ruins your build why would you even pick it.

Yeah i understand. Sounds like it is perfect for me since i like to do wierd off meta builds ect.

EA only the first 3 acts anyways, so no big rush trying meta builds as they will change as the other 7 acts launch..
