Uncut Gem Question...
Do we get by the level or the tier? We have a lot of skill gems, and they are divided by tier, what defines this tier? When can we unlock the next tier? The uncut skill gem seems to be purely on level, so we get a uncut skill gem level 7 we can use to level a skill gem to level 7 or to discover a new skill gem already at level 7, but the skill gems are divided by tiers, what unlocks the next tier? Character level?

You know, that's a great question I haven't seen addressed anywhere yet.

Maybe certain skill gems only become available based on what level your character is?

The tiers correspond to levels of the gem. And this correlates to character level requirements. Contrary to the first game, some skill gems don't start at level 1, but unlock later, these need the corresponding tier or higher uncut gem.

Higher content (think monsterlevel) will unlock higher tier drops.

You level your Skills in Path of Exile 2 using Uncut Gems. When dropped each Uncut Gem has a level, so you might get a Level 7 Uncut Gem early on during the campaign, or a Level 19 Uncut Gem in the endgame. If you do not need this to Engrave a new Skill you can use it to level one of your existing Skills instead.

That makes sense, thanks.

I think the Roman numerals are the minimum Uncut Skill Gem level required to unlock that specific skill. This means skills with tier I require, at least, a level 1 Uncut Skill Gem to unlock, and skills with tier XI requires, at least, a level 11 Uncut Skill Gem to unlock.

I took this image from DM's gameplay as a Warrior: https://i.ibb.co/877nFBj/Untitled.png at this moment he opened an Uncut Skill Gem tier III, which gave him the option to level up an already unlocked Skill Gem to level 3 or to unlock a new Skill Gem from the level 3 row at level 3, this is the moment: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2310927980?t=00h44m20s

This means if he finds an Uncut Skill Gem Tier XII he can unlock Leap Slam at level 7, unlock any other skill from Tier V, III, and I also at level 7, or level up any already unlocked Skill Gem to level 7. What confused me was the Roman numerals and the decimal numeral, they feel they serve different purposes since they are different, but, in the end, they are just the same, it's just to define the minimal required Uncut Skill Gem you need to unlock that skill.

I don't know if character level have anything to do with it, like if I'm a character level 1 and I kill an enemy level 5, maybe I can drop an Uncut Skill Gem Tier V which would allow me to unlock a Skill Gem Tier V, or less, already at level 5. I don't know if the character level is required to DROP the USG, maybe if your character isn't high enough enemies won't drop the USG.
