It seems everyone is throwing their opinion at me, so I'll throw one back: Just because this is a great product and a great developer, doesn't mean they get to play by different rules than anyone else in the Steam marketplace.
If you cannot access the game when it is 'early access', then it should say $29.99 and have a purchase button. And probably come with the protections and clauses that trigger with that button. Which is consistent with every other game on Steam. That's it.
I've been saying the same thing for days now. The f2p label is being abused here. The fact they are running EA for 6-12 months is basically gating the game so people would pay to play instead because of fomo. It is sneaky and misleading.
Calling a game 'free-to-play' but requiring payment for early access is misleading terminology. If marketed this way, GGG and Steam could face backlash, as it contradicts the expectation that free-to-play games are accessible without upfront payment.
are you a lawyer ?
Game is not released yet, this is a 6mo testing period, you can pay 30$ to help them test it.
Game is 100% FTP
If you'd like to help, you can pay 30$ to do so, or you can wait ~6mo for the official release, with the full 6 acts (Only 3 in the testing phase), plus all final content, testing is missing several classes, several ascendancy, a way to unlock said ascendancy, end game content, etc.
This is far from the official release.
False, the official release is FTP, the testing is not.
Steam isn't their primary platform, in fact the VAST majority of their player base uses the GGG Platform, and this "testing phase" is set up with that in mind. Also noting being abused here, the official release is FTP, this is a private test phase, always good to understand what words mean.
During EA, you are going to PLAY, but in order to PLAY you have to PAY $30. Nothing is FREE there.
Do you think after EA, there's going to be server wipe and everyone starts from nothing? EA is the official release. Don't be naive. This game is a buy to play game, exploiting the "free to play" label. It should have gone like the Guild Wars 2 route, with clear upfront payment then now released as F2P, instead of being advertised as F2P then gating the game behind a paywall for 6-12 months while exploiting the F2P label.
"always good to understand what words mean"
It's about the principle ^^
Afterwards it is gonna be f2p for the rest of eternity.
How would you label that instead?
Telling its b2p is even more misleading.
If you are not interested enough in buying the game, then you are not missing out on anything, because you dont really care about the game. just wait for f2p.
or and hear me out, you can wait till Official Game release, and play for free or wait for one of the million free keys that will be given out, or any of the free weekends they will have, or the eventual free testing that will happen towards the end.
Again, NOTHING misleading here, just people who don't understand what a closed test is, IE: only paid keys or free invites allowed. Should be a super simple concept.
Its free to play but you CAN pay to play the EARLY ACCESS. Not too mention you get the equal value in points to spend in the store so not only can you play the early access which if you are excited to play you should have no problem doing but you can also buy some tabs or whatever
IS the game will be released December 6th? No, it's EA realease
As steam made note for you :
Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development.

It seems you have no idea what are you talking, and you not familiar with POE. After EA your character gonna stay in EA league, and you will be forced to "self wipe" and start a new character after initial full release. So after full realease everyone will start "fresh"
