PoE 2 - Will it have Leagues like D4 Seasons?
I'm new to POE, I was wondering if they will be doing the same and force people to play seasons and restart every x months just to play new content?

Anyone's advice would be fantastic!

I'm not one that doesnt like to restart every x months. (seasonal play isnt for me)

People play poe literally for that reason, new league with new content and fresh start, very few people find any interest in playing same minmaxed character with no goal. Character progression is like one of main reasons you even play it. If you play on standard/perma server, you max you character and then what, grind for no reason? it will get boring rly fast

VERY few people play on permanent (standard) server, you can too, but idk why.

Also, new league resets give you an excuse to try a new class and/or build. My first PoE league was a minion/ice Witch(Occultist). Second league was a dual-wielding Lacerate-enjoying Duelist(Slayer). This current league was a minion/bow Scion with Evasion/ES gear.

Another reason, trying different builds, like starting them from scratch and upgrading/progressing.

You can do it on standard, but you likely will have a lot of currency there from leagues, which means you could start new build with already good gear, and then playing it will make no sense when its already finished build.

Factually inaccurate.

Yes, if you want to see most of the new content, then you will need to play leagues.

These games dont stay alive without seasons or leagues, they are not made like a MMORPG with endless progression

you dont need to participate in them if you dont like to, but then you probably wont stick to the game for long either

You're not forced to play new leagues, but it is the primary feature and main reason for the popularity, and long term success of the game.

Potentially. You will never experience a mechanic when it was the primary focus unless you play the league. When a league mechanic is the focus of that league, you will experience it with nearly every single thing you do. They could also choose not to add it to Core game, in which case it will not appear at all. There have been multiple mechanics that have gone this route. There have also been mechanics that went core, and aged out of relevance and eventually got removed entirely.

Glad someone asked this question as It was something I wanted answered as well as I haven't played a POE game before either. For me, I like investing into one character, finding the right gear and keeping it, maybe finding something better later on but not forced to losing it all as well like D4.

My question here is, so if leagues are where the new seasonal stuff is launched, like D4, if you roll a character on the season stuff and get good gear, do you lose that stuff when it gets transitioned to standard/eternal realm? Or do you get to keep what you find allowing you to still utilise that character on the standard/eternal realm?

Thanks in advance.

You keep all your stuff when that character transfers to standard. They'll be on your character if you were wearing it when the league ended, and everything in your league stash will be there on standard in special "read-only" stash tabs that you can take the stuff out of to add to your regular stash, then those pages disappear.

You get to keep it.

This results in Legacy items, items that can no longer be obtained but are still available in standard.
For example items with Crucible Trees from Crucible league, which added skill trees to weapons and didn't go core.

GGG often also creates legacy items through balance changes, where old versions get to still exist. This makes Standard pretty crazy, where the best items can be a mix of new items with the latest buffs and old items that can no longer be obtained.

Thanks guys,

So items even though go Legacy, are still as good as they were when you were playing season. Which from what it sounds like, you can mix and match standard with season content allowing truly interesting builds. So just to be clear, legacy doesn't mean items get nerfed, they are just as good as they were previously?

How do season's work, are they similar to D4, do you unlock appearances per season like D4 or is it strictly story related content where you are set with challenges each season to finish, and must get through a story?

If I make a character on standard, do the league stuff with another, can i trade between characters in terms of gear, or does each character have their own unique bank setup. I did read that most people just purchase more tabs with RL cash, just didn't see anything on if there's like a (account) tab where you could send stuff to other characters on your account.

So far, I'm getting more sold on this game.

Yes, Legacy items retain their pre-patch stats, whether that is a nerf or a buff.
The exception to this is usually if it's a base functionality change.

Legacy items are typically base numbers changes or adding/removing item mods,

Each season comes with a new mechanic, that mechanic will appear in every single zone and while you are leveling.
In PoE1 all mechanics have an 8% base chance to appear in maps (this can be increased), but the league mechanic will always be there.

It's a complete fresh start, and they come with challenges that award cosmetics.
If you wanted to play PoE1 instead of PoE2, you can still earn this season's cosmetics until the next PoE1 season in late January.
The rewards usually vary quite a bit, this league is mostly effects, but the last few leagues have given out full armor sets with variable appearance tiers that you can swap between.

The challenges are a variety of things, that are typically endgame focused liked running certain types of content, killing enough bosses, and there are always a few challenges related to the current mechanic.

Your Stash and the items in it are shared between all characters on the same League/Realm. So you can buy something on your main, put it in your stash and access it on an alt.

But you don't share the contents of your Stash across realms.
Standard, HC Standard, SSF Standard and HC SSF Standard are all separate. And those are separate from the current League, HC League, SSF League and HC SSF League.

And the tabs you purchase are available on all realms. So if you purchase a Currency tab, you will always have access to a Currency tab in all future leagues and private leagues.
Special tabs hold a lot more than a standard tab, and organize the contents for you. For example, a Currency tab has a dedicated slot for each currency item and holds 5,000 of each item. While normally a stack of chaos goes to 20.

Thanks for this, makes a lot more sense now. Really liking what I'm hearing. Guess ill be hanging my D4 robe up and hitting PO2. Thanks again for this write up. Cheers

Does Path of Exile 1 have leagues? If yes, then what do you think?
Also, NO ONE is ******* forced to "restart" any time a league comes out. Why do you people live in these weird bubbles where you make up the reality around you divorcing yourselves from the actual facts of reality?

Its a matter of fun and playstyle,

You dont know why because you enjoy the grind and re leveling characters every 3-4 months experiencing new stuff right as it happens....

There are those that enjoy playing one character, maxiing everything they can, destressing by killing stuff and simply playing there character they invested alot of time in...

These are 2 different playstyles, there is no right way or wrong way to play either one, just a preference....

So when your asking why, its because people enjoy playing one character, just as you enjoy playing many different ones....

Like do you like your steak rare or well done, its all preference, the meat isnt getting wasted if your eating it :)

On that note thanks to OP for asking that question I feel alot of questions are answered here that I overlooked in my post, seems a little more civility also, great questions great answers

There are more people on the internet worried saying they hate seasons and that they want to play on Standard than there are people actually playing on Standard. You'll figure out why eventually.
