Fomo
In PoE1 how heavy was the "fomo" content?
Im asking that /, becouse I want to try PoE2 and if its like "whops you missed a one month period, you cant get this and this skin/pet/whatever"

Like if you missed a leuge can you buy all the skins/pets from it in the game shop or "well thats that"

Probably as heavy as Path of Exile. Path of Exile 2 will have seasonal content, not all content will come to standard, this means "or you do the content now or you won't be able to experience it anymore in your entire life" kinda thing.

So... YES, Path of Exile 2 will definitely 100% have FOMO.

It's not about not getting stuff in a game, is about making the urge that if you don't get the thing right now you won't have another chance of it. This urge to do something causes psychological harm is many people, mostly children.

It's like telling you that it's your last chance of getting something from a store for -90% of the price, something you may want, but if you don't do it right now you won't ever get this discount again. The whole problem isn't the items, the price, or the content, it's the urge and the fear of missing the opportunity to have that thing that you won't ever have again.

That's why it's predatory, toxic, and aggressive towards those who don't understand the situation. People who can understand this situation can say "I don't care" and ignore it, but FOMO doesn't target adults...

As I said before, its not a made up name and IT IS an actual thing thats causing a lot of "damage".

If it doesn't affect you (as much) then great. But I do think its something like commercials. Everyone is viable to it, even if you say you are not, but not everyone is in the same way or extent.

Why put in tons of your time and not get anything for it? Talk about rolling over lol. Is the gameplay the reward then? If my friends have gained something that i dont have then thats fomo if it bother me? Thats sound dumb to me if this is the case. Wanting something is not a disease but its funny that people have a pretend name for it and use it like its an actual thing but then use it against people in a weaponized way. If in wrong then fine as i said it just sounds made up.
New cosmetic at the end of a battle pass? If I get it people will think I'm cool.

That kinda nonsense leads to FOMO.

Then again there are people who get upset if they cant buy micro transactions, saw it a couple of years ago in whatever NBA game was out at the time. Someone actually got upset they couldn't immediately drop a $100 on the in game currency.

I just dont like when if I start some game 2 year after it released and there was an event where you could get a pet and only there and then its not a good game mechanic. Like "Okay you missed it but if you really like that pet you can buy it for 10euro"

I dont talk about Early Access only pets.

I see you play Fallout 76. Let's say you missed an event for family reasons. Now all your friends are in the event skin power armour and youre the only one not having it. You paid for the game, yet didn't got some stuff

Fomo is one of the dark game design patterns that is used in order to incentivice people to do things that are not in thier best interest, and meanwhile creates a worse game.

There are i would say 3 types of people when it comes to fomo:
1. those who don't care about limited time events, and don't mind not being able to access arbitraraly locked content.
2. those who do care and would like to be able to experience everything while not being under a timer (or for paid fomo, under a timer perhaps under financial pressure).
3. Those who are the people who takes the bait and gives controll of parts of thier life to the source of fomo, spending time and/or money they would have liked to spend on something else instead on the fomo.

If you are in group 1 then that's cool, but i would suggest having some actual empathy for people.

Ones obligations in life, be that school, work, family etc, should not limit what content one can access. Good game does not design quests that read "Enjoy family dinner irl for no reward, OR play this thing NOW or miss out".

I'm part of group 1.

Empathizing is one thing but asking me to be concerned on how some spoiled brat spends their money is a bit off.

I mean what kid has 480$ at the ready to spend on mtx. These big spenders are adults and they're responsible for their own actions.

A lot of kids. And even that amount isn't the issue in itself. They got jobs and/or allowance and they'll spend it easily enough instead of saving it. And plenty get their parents CC and spend money (some more then they are allowed but it happens all the time).
And even if they are older it doesn't mean its ALL to blame on themselves. A lot ofc is but most countries have a lot of different gambling laws laws for adults too.

Just like (at least in the Netherlands but I'm sure it applies to other countries too) how teens these days make more and more use of paying in terms when they buy new (and expensive) stuff. Spending money they don't have basicly. And possibly they get 0% interest*. * meaning if you do miss payment you get fines.

I personally dont care about skins, so for me there never was FOMO.
if i wanted a skin then i bought it. I dont have use for a collection of 100 skins, so idk why some people feel FOMO regarding that.

But if this is FOMO for you, then yes PoE features plenty of FOMO.
Every league there are new supporter packs which go up to 500 dollars, and those skins are simply gone if you didnt get them then.

In addition you always have challenges in each league, and completing the challenges rewards you with "free" league skins.
Those are also gone and never seen again after the league ends.

The answer for this thread was already given, there's no purpose anymore but create unrelated fights, I suggest an admin/moderator to lock this thread. I'm unsubscribing it, there's no more point to it.
