Fully agree. "Always online" is nothing more than a glorified form of rental.
I'm aware that I also don't own games capable of offline play, but at least these can't and will not be disabled remotely.
It's also immensely stupid to design a system with a single point of failure (i.e. servers / internet connection) - all games should have an offline fallback mode.
Maybe someone will make a server emulator at some point in the future. Who knows. Diablo III is fully playable offline these days if someone really wants that.
Anyway it would be preferable to pay the devs for offline support instead of relying on third party implementations.

Except it's true. It has always been the case, the difference is that it is impossible to enforce with a physical copy.
That will never happen. The only reason there is no emulated server for POE is because all of the calculations run server side. It's the best anti cheat possible.
The client is basically just rendering stuff.
Also, GGG have already said that they have a plan in case anything happens to the company, so people will always be able to play the game.
