I think he's saying that the forward movement of the attack makes it so he and the enemies whiff entirely instead of getting a counter - not that he's trying to trigger a Hyper Drive.

OP - yeah, it's hard to land counters with Divination. My recommendation would be to move opposite from the enemy when they start up their attack and try to counter later - the startup frames before the sword becomes active against normal enemies still seems to trigger the counter. My opinion is that the rest of the benefits of this sword are good enough that it doesn't warrant changing it to make counters easier.
Yea I wiff about half the time, so I basically just need to git gud with it. Thanks for the advice I will def keep at it. I'm sure I will get used to it soon.
A few times I have gone for hyper drive really early in a stage and I was confused as to why it wasn't working even when I got the counter so thanks for letting me know.
