whats the timing on the parry. I can do it in tutorial no problem but in the game I just die 9/10 and I have no way of figuring out if im doing it too fast or too slow

Try to clear some small enemies and find space on the map to stand still for a second. This makes it much easier, as his attacks are easy to read.

the parry only works as long as the enemy is still that red-ish color. For the leapers, it's the flash and the jump that marks the vulnerable state, but as soon as they land you can't parry them.

Once you get a feel for it, the other enemy parries make more sense as well.

One thing I've noticed is that each sword actually has unique parry timing due to swing speed. The third sword is the slowest, so you have top lead your parries a few moments in advance since the hitbox isn't active on the start up for the swing. So long as your blade makes contact when they glow red, it'll parry.

I don't need more space it doesnt change my timing which just doesnt work. Wait do different melee weapons have different parry timing ?

that just occured to me too. I will need to work on this with that in mind

yeah that was it I was using slow sword but was trying to parry with regular one.
