Killed my deck…

Bought this like an hour ago. Loaded it up, went to sign into Xbox account, message popped up mentioning an issue contacting steam data.

Found a Reddit thread which the dev mentioned about restarting deck.

It’s never turned back on, stuck on boot screen even with forced restart etc.

Any help would be appreciated

I had a similar issue today. It worked fine yesterday. Got a similar error. Stuck on boot screen after a restart. I tried using the option to boot the previous Steam OS version. Hold ... while booting to get the menu. That didn't work but the same menu has an option to wipe user data and games, that did work.

Oddly, this app is on the sd card so it didn't get wiped. Though I did have to sign into my ms account again. Everything seems to be working now.

In my searching I found mention of issues booting with a full disk. I'm relatively certain I had 40-50 GB free. A data wipe would definitely have fixed that

Had the same issue but only when playing flight sim and switching back and forth between gmaepad and mouse modes (to test the controls cause currently it doesn't work on that particular game). It even happened twice, nothing can recover as the previous comment suggests.

To fix this issue, I suggest making a steam OS boot drive and boot from there. There's an option to reinstall steam OS without wiping user data, so my games and emulator saves are fairly intact, some mods or custom games would be gone though. Hope this helps.

A comment to the devs: I believe this is a crucial issue and wishes fixes asap (including playing filght sim)

Ended up factory resetting from BIOs menu, worked. Refunded it on Steam. Works flawlessly on my phone, oh well.

This worked for me as well. Got stuck during bootup sequence so I removed my sd card and it worked. Wiped everything but at least it got back up and running. I think I'll just take the $6 or whatever loss and do it the old school way through Microsoft edge. Just bought this thing and thought I bricked it, messed up my afternoon!
