How do I dig up the Blueish dirt blocks.

Not the Green/cyan ones with the triangles on top. But the blueish dirt blocks with items inside.?

You'll receive drill bit upgrades that will let you dig through harder soil after completing certain quests. If you see a patch of soil that you can't dig through yet, just ignore it for now.

The blue squares are QUEST items. As you drill deeper, you may get a quest in the lower left of your screen. Go back and find the items that are being asked for (until this point, you cannot dig them up with any sort of tool, but they will be collectable when you need them)

Additionally, if play the game on hardcore (like it is intended, hehe) you can collect the items any time. Just don't forget they are needed for the quests. If you collect them all before the quest is given you might have to start a new game :-)

He's asking about the blue soil, which mainly appears after you reach Outpost Delta, but you can often find clusters of more (and less!) dense soils in each region.

Soil density goes from Red -> Brown -> Gray -> Blue is the most dense, and each subsequent level requires a Drill Bit upgrade; but only the first one can be bought. The other two are obtained by completing the Beacon and the Hammer-and-Sickle "quests."
