The A-M-A-Z-I-N-G 506 runtime error!
You heard me, I get this error: http://puu.sh/8O2dg/b9376d1dcd.png

Why, you may ask? Well I do not know. See, when I click on new game, go through character creation and it starts to load the world, it just crashes. Did I mention that it's a new image every crash?

- I'm running a monsterous computer so it isn't my hardware being insufficient.
- I've tried deleting the image folders and doing other random deletions and revalidating my files. No go.
- My video card drivers are up to date as of this month.
- I've toyed with the graphical settings in every possible way AND tried low quality mode.
- Done some other things. I have all the direct x requirements and C++ bull crap.

I would really love to play this amazing game, but unfortunately this game does not want me to play it. I literally just bought it, downloaded it to Steam and the herp-a-derp-a-thon has begun.

What version of windows? Also, a little bit of your specs will help.

If you are in windows 8x, please try putting the MSoA.exe file into windows 7 compatibility mode.

Cool thanks. Compatibility mode help for you?

I meant windows 7. Stupid typo.

In that case, you would be the perfect candidate for Alex's crash-tester program. This is a bug Alex will need the community's help with and I know he's been looking for people that have this particular problem to help with the testing. He lives in Australia so time is a bit backwards for him, but he'll be on a bit later to reply to this thread.

I'm sure he'll ask if you're willing to help so we can find a solution to this issue. Also, I'm sorry you're having trouble. It really sucks when we get people that are having issues.

I'll do whatever I can to help. Game looks awesome, can't wait for it to be polished.

This is my same exact bug. Now someone else here has it too. fix it please or do somthing like refund us.
Mizrach May 16, 2014 @ 1:50am
Are you serious? You buy an Early Access game (beta test) and ask for a refund when there's glitches/bugs? Alex is working his ass off to fix everything that people are finding. Give him a break.

It's true! I'm working as hard as I can! Palmtop Taiga, it sounds like you'd make an excellent candidate to help with the crashtester program I'm making. Basically it's a special debug app I'm working on to help diagnose what is causing this for some people. Once I work out precisely what it is, I'll be able to apply the fix to the main game and push out a big fixer update! If you send an email to info@malevolencegame.com I'll add you to the list of debug testers and it will really help me out! Thank you!

That solution doesn't work for me Narkanam because I can't find those files you mentioned for whatever reason. Shouldn't Steam have automatically downloaded everything? Or is your solution even for the Steam release of the game?

I'm not getting memory errors, I just can't get past the character creation.
Smeggit May 17, 2014 @ 8:55am
The fix posted by Narkanam is for a different game but it can be applied to Malevolence. Steps 1 and 2 says to backup then open the game file, for Malevolence you should backup and open the file MSoA.exe in the folder 'Steam\steamapps\common\Malevolence - The Sword of Ahkranox'. And of course when you save it, save it as MSoA.exe (having backed up the original in step 1).

As for how well it works, I've only tested it as far as seeing that I can create a new character and be teleported away.

Might be of interest to you guys to know that doing Narkanam's trick and making it so it can handle >2 gig of ram allowed me to get into the game world. I will make you aware of any other problems I encounter if you want.
