Force switch to legacy branch

I'm trying to play on legacy -- no patches, which I can see by going to properties -> betas. I can switch to other versions fine and when I do so, I can see which version next to the game name. However, selecting legacy -- no patches doesn't do anything. It doesn't update any game files and switches the beta branch back to none. This is the case even after selecting the legacy branch and switching tabs in the settings. Switching back sets the branch to none. I am on Mac and haven't found anything online that works. Any solutions?

I'm not very good in those technical issues, so i might not understand some of what you're meaning. My first thought about this issue is that, even though cuphead was also designed to be played on Mac devices, it might be the issue. My second though is that you should try redownloading cuphead or steam itself. If it continues doing so, you should report to cuphead or steam about this bug. This might also be a restriction you set in your steam account, i didn't really search for this, but it might also be it. If nothing works, your only option might be to play the game in a windows computer, and if you don't have one, ask for a friend's or a familiar's one. If the bug continues to manifest, this would confirm that it is a steam account restriction.
