Hocus pocus/bunny hat spiral

How do you avoid Hocus Pocus Spiral ?

When he only has an opening diagonally down or up ? How do I get out of it ?

I’ve tried to stay at the bottom or move to the bottom when they show up so I atleast don’t get a diagonal down opening but staying under the card doesn’t seem to have an effect in any way either it still leaves options where there is a skull alignment where you are completely closed down

Smoke dash and miss chalice invincibility roll are the easiest ways to do it, it is a bit inconsistent otherwise.
