Do I have to beat the game to do the DLC?

You just need to beat the first mausoleum, then the boat guy will spawn.

No, but it's recommended to do so since the DLC is a bit harder than the base game.

You don’t really need to, but I’d recommend buying all of the base game’s items first, otherwise you won’t get enough coins with the dlc for the dlc items

actually you can buy any weapon on inkwell 4 by the ladders with ms chalice talking and a secret coin you are good to go
