Reviving Dead Co-Op Player

In the xbox one version, me and my brother found that, while one of you is dead and the other has more than one life, the one who had died can press start at any time they want and take the other player's life to revive back.

Is it a glitch or the work of the Devil wanting to keep them going for his contracts? Only fate will tell.
