How do you deal with the jumping cupcake in Sugarland Shimmy?

I'm trying to get an S on expert Sugarland Shimmy, but when that guy appears, I always take damage either by his splash damage or by a spawning little sugar soldier.

How do you handle that guy?

The fist time he jumps stay on the left, when he is closer to you dash in the opposite direction that he is going.
(Don't forget about the jellybean soldiers coming from your right)
