Help! Strange Controller problem. Dualshock 4.
Love this game, and got a Dualshock 4 with the official Sony USB wireless adapter working straight away with Steam and most games.

However, in Cuphead I have the strange problem of the controller working at the "Press Any Button" screen at the start. But after I push a button on the Dualshock 4 it is no longer communicating with Cuphead.

What is strange is that if I try and manually map the buttons, say Left, Right, etc to the D-pad, it will actually register (not the proper values though, says 'hat') but whatever is pressed cannot be saved. Not sure if this is a Cuphead problem, or Steam controller issue.

Been through all the Steam Big Picture mode settings to no avail.

If anyone out there has a solution I'd me most grateful!! Thanks

Here's what I did to fix the connection issues.

1. At the Windows 10 start menue, type 'Set up USB game controller' and open the program.
2. The Dualshock 4 shows up. Then go to Properties>Settings> Reset to default

And voila, this issue has finally been fixed and I can now experience the closest thing to playing Cuphead on the PS4!

I am now able to use 2 PS4 controllers wirelessly to play this game: One using the DS4 wireless dongle, and the other using straight up Bluetooth 4. :cuphead:

This may also help for other game pads such as Nintendo Switch controllers, etc.

Good luck!

YOU SIR! YOU ARE MY HERO! After months of trying everyday, you finally found the solution. I can't thank you enough! Now, if you excuse me, I have to play some Cuphead!

Interesting. You are accurately describing my issue. I tested two Dualshock controllers with Sonic All Star racing and they worked perfectly.

same issue here, it's been an issue for such a long time.
Should we Riot?

I just read a temporary solution that worked for me, unpair or unplug the DS4, then reboot or run the game, once you're running the game then plug the DS4 with USB cable and that should make do.

Thankyou. I will try that out as a temporary solution. Too bad I don't have any USB cables around that are long enough :steamsad:

So the solution is to play this game wired. Yes it works, but looking for wireless.

I had a look the pinned bug report OP and the bug we are discussing here isn't in that list, the DS4 is mentioned but not our specific problem. Hopefully someone will take notice considering lots of people are having the same issue with DS4 and Switch controllers.

What's funny is no other game I have in my Steam library has this issue. In fact, with a 2 player game like Sonic All Stars Racing, I can play two-player with one DS4 Bluetooth dongle controller, and another DS4 just connected with bluetooth, and it works fine. But for some reason Cuphead won't work past the "Press Any Button Screen".

EDIT: Oh, I just realized I do have another game with this same controller issue, F1 2015. There's unlikely to be a fix for that one, but I work around the issue by getting into the game and starting a race using a keyboard, and only when in the race pushing the PS button. I tried something similar for Cuphead but it didn't work.
