Can't use 2 controllers for co op?
LOL, what? I hate using a keyboard on this game. Horrible. But I've checked everywhere, can't find a solution for having 2 gamepad controllers at once. I've had better luck pulling out of a girl than figuring out co-op on this game to be a good experience.

Have you tried STARTING the game with a controller?

Yup, and it doesn't show any "Press Start" for 2 player. Only when i start it up AND use a keyboard for myself does it offer 2 player. I can't even edit the player configurations because one player MUST USE a keyboard. Pretty bad implementation for co-op i must say.

Start the game with both controllers plugged in
Press start on player 1's controller
When you get to the World map press any button on the second controller unitl mugman spawns

Depending on the controller you might need to open the option menu and select controllers, remap the controls for them (The only time I personally needed to rebind the controller, was because I was using a PS and Xbox controller, and had to rebind the PS controls for the first player)
Once you have rebinded the the controller, the game should save it, and use it the next time you use that controller for the player slot you used it for

I did this before, but I just retried this in the last 1/2 hour, and never had to use the keyboard once the controls were rebinded.

Plus I'm pretty sure there's an "assign controller" option in the settings.

It didn't set the buttons, it just assigned the controller to the player slot

Yeh. Ik. His problem is assigning the controller. Not with the configs.

I've tried this, again, no command or option for player to press start or enter works. Even when i go into the binding/controls to assign a new controller it doesn't work. In fact, it rebinds player 1 to whichever controller im trying to bind player 2 to. I can't assign or do anything for the second controller unless it's a keyboard. Doesn't matter of it's a corded or wireless, nothing works.

what're your controller's models again?

All of them are xbox controllers meant for PC, going as far as coming with a disc to install the software. So before we jump to a conclusion that it might be 'the wrong controller' they aren't. They all work fine with the game, just won't allow me to have 2 at the same time.

Alright, just so we have all the facts laid out,
You are using 2 wired Xbox controllers (for the PC)

You are starting the game with both controllers plugged in
You use player 1's controller when the prompt for "Press Any Button" appears on the title screen
On the world map, pressing buttons on either controllers won't show the prompt "PRESS ANY BUTTON TO JOIN"

If you use the keyboard on the title screen
The button prompt "PRESS ANY BUTTON TO JOIN" will appear when you press the buttons
Once player 2 has spawned, going to the controls you switch to the player 2's setup and select "Assign Controller", which causes it to bind the controller to player 1 instead
Switching back to player 1's setup, pressing the "Assign Controller", will also bind the controller to player 1

Is this all correct ?

Basically this: I can start up the game with both controllers plugged in, but only 1 will work and that would be for player 1. The second controller doesn't show up in the controls nor does pressing start for player 2 work. It doesn't even show up on the screen for player 2 to join. I've tried various combination with wireless and wired controllers. Nothing. I've tried starting up the game with a keyboard, letting my friend use the controller, tried switching out for another controller, still nothing. The game will not let me use another controller otherwise it assigns all the gamepad controls to that controller only FORCING the other player to use a keyboard.. It will not let me remap controls for a new controller while one is in use, otherwise all mapping goes to said controller. Yes, everything you just said is my situation. I don't understand why this game refuses to let me have 2 controllers, but it's why i lost interest in the game. I enjoy having a pal play along and i don't get much fun from playing it by myself. Just one of those games you need a friend for. Sucks because we both enjoy it.

I've tried literally everything i can. You're probably wondering why I can't just deal with a keyboard, well despite my best efforts to assign keys that best fit my comfort level, I simply cannot enjoy this game with a keyboard. My hand gives up after so much repetitive tension which is strange because I've never had an issue with my keyboard hand even after 8-9+ game sessions lol.

Hey, I am late i know, but i had the same Problem. I started the Game with 2 Controllers plugged in, but in options there was always one keyboard and only one controller. Then i just tried creating a new Game with one Controller and then pressed any button on the other Controller and then the Game asked to join a second Player, so i pressed on the second Controller again. It worked!

The above methods didn't work for me. I use two PS3 controllers. What did work for me was this: Start the game using keyboard. Press a button on controller 2 to join the game (check the red controller lights numbered 1,2,3,4 on the front of the PS3 controller). Then change player one's controls from keyboard to controller 1. For some reason it does not work if you join with controller 1, and then try to change any player's keyboard to controller 2
