How do you even know that?
There are also other threads in these forum where people struggled with getting the game to run, you might want to look around. Also doesn't Microsoft promote this "buy-it-once, play-it-anywhere"-thing? So... if you happen to own an Xbox, try it on there ~
Also you might want to get into contact with the Microsoft customer support, if the threads on here are not useful to you - that's what these people are there for.
Maybe something on your system changed since you were able to play it.
Anyway, skimming over various threads, there are 3 common ways to get this fixed.

uninstalling and reinstalling might fix it - but I doubt that since you don't have the Steam version, but you can try anyway

using Win 8 compatibility mode may help you (set this with the actual .exe file, you can try to check the box to run it as admin too)

different overlays like for video capturing or some gpu/cpu - monitoring overlays might interfere and cause crashes
