...So that being said, I'm only really indifferent about Cuphead as a character. Part of me likes the fact he's jolly and not human, and he's certainly more charming than Hat Girl or most video game stars now adays, yet another part of me dislikes the randomness of the idea of an anthropomorphic cup. Yeah, it's creative, but is it cool? Not really. Some day, I may play this game and if I like it it may change how I feel to an extent, but I can't help but feel divided.
King Dice is that guy for me.
Isn't he just Cuphead but blue and bigger eyes (or something)? I'd be more interested in a cat or a mouse playable, to be honest.

They mention how they wanted to create a unique character that didn't adhere to what most gaming companies have nowadays. So animal type characters have been OVERLYYYY used since the beginning.
I think the idea behind Cuphead is great.
Not nearly as much as humans, though. And I appreciate the idea of wanting to be different. I really do. I wonder if I'd like a type of food more. I could see a fruit or food-based playable in this game.
I think you are just thinking way too much about it. The characters are cups, theres no more to it. They are ment to be just the playable characters, what are you looking for exactly on these characters?, more depth to them? im sorry to say but, the game's focus is on its mechanics and its graphic design.
I always see this argument and similar, I just don't feel we should be the ONLY goodguys so often, nor shoud the main star being human be a requirement.
I don't know. I guess maybe something a bit cooler? I still want to play this game, though, as I admire it's originality. Maybe I just want to see more games with anthros in them, being an anthro fan? This isn't really a game staring an anthro character I'll love, nor is it a game staring a generic human. It's just... somewhere in the middle, I guess. I'm not slamming the game, and due to its popularity I wouldn't be surprised if there was DLC in the future, and maybe a few new characters, though I expect food and more tableware before I expect an anima or a monster.
Actually, I tend to like tanky-looking characters a lot. Maybe a tanky-teapot or something would fit me better.
In all seriousness though this seems like a weird complaint to not play a game. Don’t worry though because most of the time you’ll be looking at the bosses instead of Cuphead. And by golly there’s only two human characters in the entire game.
Cuphead is more about the gameplay and the art instead of characters/development.
The way my imagination reconciles with the character is to accept him as something very /opposite/ to a cool monster; he represents something weak facing near impossible odds. He's just a tiny delicate fragile object, a bit of porcelain, we hear cracking sounds whenever he takes damage. He's the last thing you'd expect to be a hero, facing ghouls and dragons. But he must.
An example of this same sort of mood in fiction would be the Lord of the Rings...a whole world of fabulous beasts and wizards, but the hero is a half-size Hobbit from the sticks who has to go to Mordor.
TL;DR: Maybe he is un-cool, but for a cool reason?
For cuphead, I'd say it's not too good but not too bad at this. Because obviously this is not a game focused on narrative and such, but the main characters aren't just cups. They're cups that one's souls are on debt that also work as devil's debt collectors. They save their own lives by pretty much taking away everyone else's. That's really morbid for a silly nonsense cartoon that everything comes to life.
