The Devil’s goat attack
I seem to read in several guides that you can actually duck his goat attack but I have never been able to do it no matter where on the screen. Is there something I’m missing here?

There was a patch a bit ago that stopped that. You have to jump and dash to avoid it now.

You don't have to dash

You don't have to dash, but I've found the timing has to be spot on. However, if you add the dash after the jump, you don't have to be as percise.

I found that just timing the jump right is safer for me because, sometimes, dashing sent me towards the edge of the screen and I got hit while the arms were retracting. I guess it's really situational (if in the middle, don't dash. If you're near the edge, dash towards the middle), but I could be remembering wrong; it's been a while.

Best way is to just use an EX attack mid-jump, if you have it.

That would have definitely been a waste; it's better to just get the timing right and save your EX meter for an ultimate (I remember using invincibility every time I fought the devil cause it's great for that one part where the spinning bats attack you).

I have never hit the edge of the screen while dashing from the middle for the goat attack.

Towards the edge of the screen, not actually hitting the edge. As in moving away from the middle.

That’s what I meant, it always works for me.

If you time your jump and dash while airborne you'll dodge the attack

wait for the very last second to jump then dash, took me a while to get used to it but it's possible to do it consistently.

If you position yourself properly (one dash-length away from the center), you have the maximum possible amount of time to dodge that attack. Which, if you're using Charge like I was, allows you to squeeze a fully charged shot in as well.
