Expert Mode
When you unlock Expert Mode, how would one go about playing it from the get-go on a new save file?

You unlock expert mode after you beat the devil for the first time. From that point forward, you are able to fight every boss in expert mode as one of the difficulty settings (Simple, Regular, Expert). A new save file will NOT have expert mode. Run & Gun stages do NOT have expert modes.

They aren't; they're just using the completed save file (I looked up some speedruns to verify this). However, there could be some weird bug or something that let's you do it in a new save file: skip to 2:58 in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NasUdrDd-zc. The guy started a new save file and didn't have Expert mode as an option (as expected), but he started the fight really quickly and it registered as expert mode anyway.

The way you do it is
1: Unlock Expert mode on a save file at least ONCE
2: Before exiting hover over expert on a boss fight on that same file
3: Start new file
4: Start a boss fight and you'll notice that your difficulty selection screen is a little odd looking.
5: Press whichever key to start the fight and you'll be on expert.
