But please let us know if you are using wireless or wired on your computer.
If its wired then you dont need DS4, But if its wireless then I may have to do a bit of digging into how its works
Yes the controller im using is hooked up before I even log into steam.
Just exit DS4Windows, connect your controller to your PC (bluetooth or wired) then launch cuphead and use your PS4 controller.
Alternatively (do these operations with your keyboard only) you can open the esc menu, select Remove Player 2 if you still have the second player active, open the esc menu again, select options, select controls, select Assign Controller, turn your controller ON if it wasn't already, click any button on your controller and use it from this point forward.
The fact that it's a ps4 controller has no bearing (and yes cuphead doesn't need ds4 in fact it only creates compatibility issues, not this one though).
Tldr: use ds4windows properly (exclusive mode) or don't use it at all
