Reminds me of Contra Shattered Soldier

Just started playing, weapon and movement reminds me of Contra SS.

It's basically a simpler version of SS with not quite as good controls and less weapon options, and way more RNG. There are more weapons in Cuphead, but with no charge for them it's about the same, though most of the weapons in Cuphead really aren't that good.

One thing that SS got perfect and Cuphead gets way wrong is patterns aren't set, they are random. With SS it was like a fast paced puzzle game, you got to know how to do the bosses and levels perfectly. With Cuphead it's way more random. Some poeple may like that, I didn't. Though I'm still having a ton of fun.

Yeah, I feel the upgradable weapons causes a lack of consistency. What I mean by that, take for example Botanic Panic, the potato boss that turns into a onion then a carrot as his last form can be make significantly easier if you purchase the spread gun, which made his carrot form a fricken joke. Subsequent boss forms in any video game I've played since the NES era are supposed to be more difficult (to the point where it's either bullet hell or they try to cheese you), not easier.

Spread is nothing compared to the charge weapon. It's by far the most powerful and overall the best.

I wish all weapons could charge like in SS though.

True, charging in SS added a layer of depth to the weapons but still made the game consistent. Sticking to this game's concept the buildup of EX shots, I guess in a way, is like charging your weapon.

Yeah, I guess. I really wish the controls in Cuphead were as good as they were in SS. Locking the angle and stuff would be pretty handy at times.

I also wish SS was on PC. That'd be sick.

LoL yeah, we can only wish. Japanese devs are on another playing field. A lot of games out now feel like they're playing catch-up to the golden days.
