Set up controller for Player 1?

I can choose to start the game with the controller no problem, but as soon as I get to the first screen where I can control a character it pops up "PLAYER 2 HAS JOINED THE GAME" when I press any button and now I have two characters on the screen, one controlled with the keyboard with 3hp and one controlled with the controller with 1hp. As I'm playing this by myself, this presents a bit of a problem. Going into Options>Controls lets me drop tjhe controller for Player 2, but won't let me assign it to Player 1.

Anyone else having this issue and know a fix? Been looking forward to this game for the better part of a year, would be great to be able to play it!

I use a generic gamepad with x360ce and have that problem as well. It doesn't happen if you don't keep the game window focused.

DS4 here, maybe that's the issue. Sucks because i can't really play it as of now, wish I got the Steam version so I could refund :(

Nah, I bought the game on Steam and am having the same troubles with it.

DS4? are you using DS4Windows? if so, close it, the game has native DS support.

when using DS4Windows, inputmapper, etc. the game thinks you have two controllers connected since dualshock 4 is fully supported (even with button text like cross, square, circle, triangle).

The problem is xbox360ce turn that off and go to steam -> config -> controller and set your generic controller to emulate a 360 and never use xbox360ce again, it works even with no steam games added to your library :) ... hope that works.
