What do you mean set to neutral? I have only one joystick and when i press any button at the timer screen nothing change on the joystick mapping screen.
I managed to make it work but there are some issues, i don't get any prompt for the tutorial, or talk to npcs. I guess they should fix it so we can use any generic usb controller.
a fellow named Incognitos posted this on m youtube, it may help.
"So, if you want to get Cuphead running with x360ce, all you need to do is open Cuphead, go into Options > Controls, press Remove Controller, then manually open up x360ce (windowed mode is recommended). Make sure it is running completely fine. Then, go back to Cuphead and press Assign Controller, click inside the x360ce window and quickly press a button on your controller. Voilà!"
That's exactly the same words from the op main message here. It works but the button prompts are missing/not working using this.
That's strange, as I specifically tried to fix that issue with the button prompts and it worked for me. Maybe I have some other settings in x360ce that help me with that, but I'm not sure. But even with my "fixed" version, I still have the issue that the direct input will be viewed as a second controller and thus Mugman will join the game whenever I press a button.
