Controller Issue SOLVED! (x360ce)
I found it! I found it! Hahahahaha...'xcuse me.

So, if you want to get Cuphead running with x360ce, all you need to do is open Cuphead, go into Options > Controls, press Remove Controller, then manually open up x360ce (windowed mode is recommended). Make sure it is running completely fine. Then, go back to Cuphead and press Assign Controller, click inside the x360ce window and quickly press a button on your controller. Voilà!

To check if it worked, just look at the button mapping of the controller: If it says D-Pad Up, Left Stick Up, A, X and the likes, congratulations! Enjoy the game without any further restrictions.
If it says Axis 0, Button 10, or is completely blank, then I don't know either.

But I hope it works for everyone with x360ce, it just took me 6 hours to figure out to enjoy the game with my GameCube controller and I know it's a huge pain in the butt.

Guess I was a little early with that, it does not resolve the issue that Mugman will join whenever you push a button. Huh.

What do you mean set to neutral? I have only one joystick and when i press any button at the timer screen nothing change on the joystick mapping screen.

Neutral just means make sure it's upright and not tilted left or right, ect.

I managed to make it work but there are some issues, i don't get any prompt for the tutorial, or talk to npcs. I guess they should fix it so we can use any generic usb controller.

That would be very nice.

That's exactly the same words from the op main message here. It works but the button prompts are missing/not working using this.

That's strange, as I specifically tried to fix that issue with the button prompts and it worked for me. Maybe I have some other settings in x360ce that help me with that, but I'm not sure. But even with my "fixed" version, I still have the issue that the direct input will be viewed as a second controller and thus Mugman will join the game whenever I press a button.

Try renaming the xinput1_3.dll to xinput1_4.dll and try these stpes again. For some reason that works for me. Player 2 still spawns for me though.

i use ds4 controller, it basically emulates the xbox controller perfectly

I know my comment my not pertain to x360ce, but for anyone having controller issue using DS4windows, in profiles change the controller settings to use Dinupt only, this fixed my issue with player 2 spawing when using my ps4 controller

sadly I dont have a ps4 controller. Just a generic madcatz pc controller.
