Cuphead is the undertale of 2017
You might cringe at the title, but it's true because both of them are indie games that got massive success and massive widespread, though cuphead was anticipation that was building up while undertale was instantanious.

Also, both games got released on september, though with some days of difference.

Edit: forgot to mention that cuphgead doesn't have a cringy fanbase, unlike undertale. I guess

Being successful indie games released in the same month does not quantify one being the other of the new year. Undertale fanbase in a nutshell, jeez.

Yeah, both got godawful fanbases, but unfortunately, it's unavoidable thing. Look at poor Hotline Miami series or Bendy for example.

They are so similar you could call them Cuptale and Underhead.

[edit] What is godawful about the Cuphead fanbase? I don't have the game yet, but am thinking of picking it up. What's up with the fanbase, please? Just curious.

Cuphead is much more succesful than undertale.

Also, both games have copious amounts of fan "art" ;)

Right... Cuphead might not be doing so badly. But it's being pretty much entirely overshadowed by Divinity: Original Sin 2 with more than double the sales and critical reception calling it the game of the decade, best RPG ever made, penetrating the top 50 games ever made above Zelda etc. With numerous 10/10 scores, one of them Gamespot. It'll get a lot of GOTY awards for sure. Cuphead? Not so much.

Let's not overreact shall we.

Popularity has its price. The up-front cost is how much effort it takes to actually make something unique, and there's further payments consisting of a great number of people who get really obnoxious about how unique it is.

Not to mention lots of room for furry R34

But really, this game doesn't seem like it will lead to nearly as bad of fanbases as FNAF and Undertale. Cuphead is hard, turning away most squeakers. The gameplay isn't nescesarilly new or unique, and the only thing people are going crazy over is the artstyle, whereas the other two were popular for being different. And most importantly, no excess lore hidden under wall kepads or game files.

Only thing up with the fanbase is that we don't take ♥♥♥♥ from people whining about the difficulty. On that note, if you have the ability to recognise patterns/save spots and are able to use a controller (highly recommended over keyboard) then you won't have too much trouble. Also, DSP beat the game and if he can do it then anyone with functiong hand can.

It's not only furries, you know?

Gameplay is not what matters the most, what actually matters is popularity, no matter how big or small is it.

I forgot to mention that the cuphead fanbase isn't as cringy as the one from undertale. (I hope)

My mistake for not mentioning early. ♥♥♥♥ me

People moaning about the difficulty.

It is a difficult game, and has obviously been built from the ground up to be so. People losing twice to a boss and then 'giving up on the game' because of the 'barriers to entry' are missing the point entirely and have no patience in a game where, paradoxically, the fights often last less than two minutes.

But hey, whiners will be whiners. I've only just got to World 2 I'm that bad and I still love it to ♥♥♥♥.

Fair point, it's just that I found those similarities and both of them got a lot of attention, far more than other indie games

True, more popularity conveys getting some disturbed individuals in your community, though I wasn't aware of that point and I'm kinda lunky to not have found it.

SteamDB shows that undertale got more people owning it, but it's mostly because it's 2 years old. Cuphead is on it's first weeks, so I hope it goes well

Oh yes, the internet sure works very fast on those.

Nice shilling, but seriously though, I'm talking more that the internet is giving more attention, even if original sin performs better in sales and critical acclaim.

Pretty much, and it gets more depresing if a certain fanbase ruins it, either by drama or by being weird as ♥♥♥♥.

We all know him and laugh at how much he suck at a lot of games, but when even him can beat the game, then it doesgive a very bad impresion to those who don't beat it.

I was also surprised to know about that (even if he ragequited some easier games).
