The deal didn't harm their artistic vision, though. The only downside I can see is it might not come to Switch. Then again, Minecraft came to Switch, and Microsoft also owns that.
Many Microsoft funded indie titles has shown they are pretty lenient with their deal and does not hinders development at all, like Ori or Dust:AET. The latter title also made its way to other platform like PS4.
Also Cuphead is available DRM Free on GOG...which is actually surprising.
EDIT: Apparently Cuphead is 'console exclusive' to Xbox One, but they said they own the IP, not Microsoft. So the possibility for porting to other platform is still there.

You can't please anyone. If you put the game DRM-free on PC then people whine about lack of console ports. If you make it console only then people whine because there's no PC version. I mean just be glad it's on steam/gog at all and not on that awful windows store.
The dev is a piece of trash with an ego like Phil Fish though. I didn't buy the game based on his attitude and shilling (of course he supports M$) on Neogaf. Guy criticized the new Zelda game thinking he could do better. I actually hated the new Zelda game but for a dev who produced one game and is an M$ fanboy thinking he could make a Zelda game better makes me want to vomit.
As for the thread if M$ owns the IP now and they make a sequel. Be prepared for it to get ♥♥♥♥ on and the difficulty dropped. Possibility for microtransactions or even pay to win in the future as well. M$ has a history of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and absolutely destroying the foundation of the IPs they own. Go on the Windows Store look at the in app purchases for any game they have for examples. Absolute travesty. Cannot take their console fanbase serious as "gamers" either and I used to be a fan. "see my artwork"
Imagine being this mad at video games
Windows Store UWP locks game files. I hope someday the Source code for Win 10 gets leaked just in case they somehow release something decent on that platform.
Well mad in the sense of gaming but I don't let it affect my everyday life. Nice Umad meme though. I remember when I used to be a teenager.

Devs own the IP. They also self published it as well. M$ mainly just paid for it.
Don't give Polygon views please use the archive version if you have to.
Hell. It's essentially a deal with the devil. They must have had a fantastic negotiation to maintain the rights to the IP. Phil Spencer (Don Mattrick 2.0 yet worse) would have prolly canceled the game if they owned the IP from the start. RIP Scalebound
