Ok just speaking from person experience, but platformers, a controller is not needed. You can play platformers fine with just a keyboard, like for example dead cells.

Controller helps, but it's not necessary. The controls are customisable if you don't like the default ones too.

There are no mouse controls though, purely keyboard aiming (8-directional), which makes an analog stick much nicer.

Yeah, you should have a controller. It's much easier.

It is harder with a keyboard but not impossible, you’ll get used to whatever you decide to use at first.

It's plenty simple enough to play this game with a Keyboard, even if controller is better, due to it being a 2D platformer. Now, if it were a 3D Platformer (not named Crash Bandicoot)...

For the love of god, use the D-pad NOT the analog part of the controller.
It physically hurts to see someone using the stick when D-pad is infinitely superior.

^ the usual ps2 knockoff controllers (that works on some games, but for some reason cuphead won't) have an absolutely s#itty D-pad which makes the analog much superior. still doesn't compete with a real D-pad.

and you need a 3rd party program for it like x360CE or joytokey

D pad is the arrow key or cross looking thing.

The plus pad offers far more movement stability and precision.
