(Heheh, tipsss, 'cause she has snakes in her hair. I see what you did, there.) In phase 2, you can actually avoid the stone beam by getting really close to her face, though obviously not so close that you get clipped by her hitbox.

Her petrifying gaze is actually avoidable in both phases, the second is dodge-able the way Kid-hearted Gamer said, and the second can be dodged if you get close to the corals
But in both cases, its better to take it and shake it off asap
Also, keep in mind her head is her hitbox, bombing her boobs wont give her any damage (unless the damage has enough radius)

"But in both cases, its better to take it and shake it off asap." Actually, in regards to the 2nd phase specifically, avoiding it can potentially allow for an opportunity to do a huge amount of damage unopposed before the eels show up, and if enough damage is done during said opportunity, they won't even get to do anything before phase 3 starts. This applies even to Expert, amusingly enough.

That explains so much. Cala Maria is the only boss were I seriousssly question the design choices regarding her mechanics, it just is not a fun fight - especially when compared to all the other great bouts. The theme, however, is pretty damn rad.

Let's be real here. The fact that Cala Maria is a giant mermaid (who turns into a Gorgon) is enough for most people. Lol.

Honestly, I can't give you tips. Dragon took me about 100 tries but Cala Maria took me like two tries.. I actually don't know why Cala Maria is world three and dragon is world two :steamhappy:

"I actually don't know why Cala Maria is world three and dragon is world two" Who knows? I mean, considering Sally Stageplay is in World 3 and the only real threats from her are the baby & toy mice in the second phase...

Yeah but I mean I think Sally and Cala should be world two but Grim Matchstick should be world three but its just an opinion

I don't disagree with that notion, honestly. And will add Expert Wally may as well be a postgame superboss that just happens to be located approximately halfway through the game's map progression.

Wally isnt that hard (even on expert, altho escaping those spiked eggs is very hard Ill give you that, but phases 2 and 4 are free kills)
As for Sally, try doing her without the broken smoke bomb
You will see why is she in World 3

I barely use Smoke Bomb on Sally. Her main attack goes over you and misses completely if you're standing next to her, it doesn't help a lot with the mice, nor does it help enough with the 4th phase. The ONLY attack it really helps with is the Big Wave attack, which is rather difficult to avoid without by comparison, but that phase goes down VERY quickly, anyway.
Incidentally, it really is that first phase of Wally I was referring to. The rest is mostly just a longer-lasting take on the original versions of those phases. And given how I tend to be mentally worn out by the time the first phase is over with and you have to do that phase every time you die...kinda just piled up into seething rage and a parade of stupid deaths to things that weren't as hard to deal with.

Dashing past bottles, mice and Sally herself helps as well
