How to i use a xbox one controller as player 1?

Im trying to play cuphead with my xbox one controller (plugged into my pc with a samsung charging cable) I cant use the main menu with my controller so i used my keyboard, i got into the actual game and when i pressed the controller it started me as player 2. I wanna play as player 1 with my xbox one controller. Not player 2 please help. ALSO i only want player 1 i dont wanna play co-op.


UPDATE!!!: I fixed it, all i did was load up the game and just smashed random buttons on my controller, i didnt touch my keyboard at all besides starting the game up. Hope this works for you guys!

I think you have to go into the options menu, go to controls, and go to assign controller, and than you can use the controller as Player 1.

If that doesn't work, I got nothing else.

Actually, there is an easier way. Remove player 2

That doesnt work because it counted player 2 as my controller and i want to use my controller

Every time I try and remove player two, pressing a button on the player one controller automatically brings player to back in
