Can you only shoot while running?

I was watching a demo video on youtube and it seems like you can only shoot if you are running and the gameplay overall seemed pretty janky with the inputs being unresponsive. Is this true?

To answer your question no, there is an option to lock your character to shoot in 8 directions.
