Okay, thank you. After watching some more gameplay I realized that it's not as close as I hoped.
Syndicate Wars is in my personal top 5 games ever, and that vid shows why. I preordered it weeks before release from Game, (I recall it being about 30 quid even then), and it turned up 2 days late. But man, was it worth the wait.
Pentium 133Mhz, 4Mb Orchid Righteous 3D, 32 Mb RAM.
The intro, (though not in that vid), was great, really set the scene. The graphics were amazing, (for the time). The gameplay had me glued to my PC for weeks. The detail in the missions was amazing. But I think it was the sound that really grabbed me. Bullfrog were masters of sound in their games. From the HQ interface sound effects, to the intro, and in-mission music and sound effects/ambient sounds it was just perfect, (even then I used to turn off combat music as I felt it was a bit of a cheat so I can't comment on that).
I never finished the game as the last missions were bugged. I could do Colombo, but when I got to the space station bit I'd inexplicably spawn with inadequately crap weapons and inevitably die, (I'm convinced I read somewhere once that Molyneux wasn't happy with releasing it as it was, but was voted down). Hated that at the time, but hindsight has mellowed me.
So yeah, even though I never finished it I still have really fond memories of that game. Which is why I bought Satellite Reign.
I know there are Bullfrog veterans working on Satellite Reign, I just hope the game can stand on the shoulders of that giant and see further.
