How does XP gain work?
Has anyone figured out the calculations with numbers and everything or are there any developer willing to share?

Edit: I have completed all completable missions and I'm very far from being max level.
The run before I was max level on my infiltrator before leaving downtown.
Not sure if it's something that has changed in an update or if uber damage gets lower exp.

Do things, mostly in compund, and dont die, wait for "bloop" sound.

Best advice is to look at your loadoud XP bar before going in, have a pen n paper ready and set some actionable paramters and narrow it down from there.

i tested a bit in the get your 4th guy mission on default difficulty:
entering the targetdoor: 200xp
rideing an elevator: 250xp
both are repeatable

Max level before leaving Downtown? Wow. Even though I did many runs on the places I had already been to, for the extra money, and to get to know the compounds, I think my team began reaching max level when I got to the CBD district, or maybe a bit before. But at most 2-3 missions before I got to the CBD district at most.

But you should get XP from almost everything. Sneaking, shooting stuff, killing, using skills... I think almost all of it gives XP. Hard to say what the quickest way to level is though? Kill everything in sight all the time or sneak around and only make sneaky kills?

Killing everything that moves is the fastest way if you can, mostly because doing so tends to make them throw more people at you to kill. It's also a good way to get killed if you make any sort of mistakes. Therefore a good way to learn what works and what doesn't.

Yup, that is how I played my first play through. Killing enemies, and figuring out tactics to use the sword stab (Q) and the hijack (V) skills in combat, figuring out when the timing is good to use these skills, and also how to start an attack with these skills. Later I got medipacks (H) and grenades (G), adding to the fun. Also, mixing in nano healing bots is always nice from the support (N)

I usually made sure I always had the max of hijacked people, of the highest level or a lvl below. Until I got lvl 5 hijack, those mechs are just too slow. Maybe when in a compound and you need to do major damage its good to get one. Otherwise they are too clunky.

Anyone noticed those oversized mechs can use vents? :P How? Let me just transform into a robot worm...

But now I am playing with all game modes added. And I have decided not to get stuff from the black market at all. So looking forward to see how this will play out. Almost done with Downtown so far. No deaths, because the punishment of losing all XP and skills just seems not worth it, so might as well reload and do it better.

Just being in a restricted area generates XP, so any calculations will be unreliable.
The run before I was max level on my infiltrator before leaving downtown.
In which build was that?

The one I got to max level on in downtown was probably 0.83 or something like that.

Edit: And couldn't just being in a restricted area to generate XP be timed and figured out somehow?

Supposedly there are timers and/or limits for how much XP you get when hiding and sneaking in restricted areas, and perhaps proximity to enemies also affects the gain. The more things there are, the harder it gets to isolate any one of them.

Possible. The gain did not seem to have the same rate in different restricted areas.
