A warning to all who want to perform a VBIOS update for resizable bar
As announced by EVGA today, the VBIOS update came out for enabling the resizable bar on the RTX 30X0 series.

For my RTX 3080, I ran this via Precision X1 by default in software. The software update went smoothly, and subsequently I was offered the VBIOS update. This update is executed separately in the CMD.

The new VBIOS version was detected, the update started and ended at 52%. The VBIOS update aborted with the following error message:

EEPROM programming failed.
PROGRAMMING ERROR: EEPROM Program failed.

Subsequently, the GPU was no longer recognized. Precision X1 could not be restarted because without a detectable GPU, the software would not work. Consequently, a retry or return to the previous state was no longer possible. After a PC reboot, the GPU was no longer detected: Screen black - GPU dead - I aged and looked like King Théoden with Grima at his side.

I have not been able to fix the situation, but a workaround in the case of my GPU:
Provided that someone of you does the update and has a similar problem, the GPU - IF it offers this option - can be switched from Normal to OC with a small switch installed on the GPU. In this case, a same secondary bios is used, the GPU is usable again instead of a case for a RMA.

THINK TWICE ABOUT UPDATING THE VBIOS! Just because something can work by default, even under the best of circumstances, doesn't mean it will. I thought I was smarter than that, but I'm not. I'll gladly give up resizable bar for having a working GPU under today's circumstances.
Maybe I'm a unique case. If not, news about the case may pile up.

For anyone with the courage to go the way of VBIOS update: Good luck!

For some reason I wasn't able to do it through precision x1, but downloading it from this post on their forum worked like a charm.

i just "updated" and got the eeprom error

now i have to leave my pc running i guess. my card does not have a dual bios

going to need a fix for this ASAP evga....

EDIT: Ok, i fixed my problem by manually downloading the vbios and reflashing my GPU using nvflash. got worried and sketched out, but it's back to normal now lol

EVGA forums helped, but more detailed instructions should've also be posted here on steam before the X1 update that just had a simple link to evga's product page....

Check your power target after getting everything done as it set mine to something like 17 and I couldn't figure out why I got 7fps in the first game i played after the update.
